It was romantic, it was touching, it had the most beautiful scenery and lovely costumes, and it had very good cast: Gerald Butler has gorgeous, handsome face, fit body and super charming smile; Hilary Swank is stylish, always well dressed even though she doesn't have jobs sometimes; Lisa Kudrow is still having Phoebe Buffay's funny crazy things going on which confuses us from time to time if we are watching friends--I actually do like it. Kathy Bates always came up with worldly wise word as mental summarize of the movies. And Harry Connick Jr. play dumb and super smart at the same time which I don't believe him--ignore me please, I don't believe lots of stuffs.
In the beginning, H.Swank and G. Butler were fighting ugly like they hated each other, suddenly they were in a deep deep love as we didn't have any clue where it was from. GB was dead from cancer later and HS started to live alive in the hell. Suddenly she got her 30's present from her dead husband to tell her how to do with her life. Since then she got Butler's letters from time to time so that Butler's pretty smile showed up on the screen constantly. Everyone tried to help under the guide of a dead man. So far it got tears, screaming, lingering ghost, lost spirit, desperate life, restless friends, dreadful admirer, inappropriate jokes, ghost childhood buddy which may be another ghost, serene green land around Ireland mountain where hiding lots of scary things behind; it is scary horror movie, isn't it? In the end, everything seemed worked out in a tacky Hollywood style: Butler's ghost has gone, Swank found herself again much better than before, her mum Kathy Bates settled her issues from her failed marriage, Phoebe got marry and stopped asking cute guys 3 classic questions(see below about it), Harry Connick recovered from years unsuccessful life (he was so smart that I couldn't tell why he failed in everything)... You never know.
n a summary, better than last year idiotic Christmas movie The Holiday, still it is pretty much a horror movie--it got the horror movie basic elements: terrible life, predictable scary plots, intense nerves, you know what is going to happen next, but you couldn't help stopping watching; things happen without ordinary logic; it tried to make you believe something good exist in the world-- purified, selfless, endless, unchangeable, faithful, mad true love without any conditions. 2 hours movies, people keep asking, what the hell is going on??? By the way, the music is as vulgar as Hilary Swank's karaoke performance; lots of bar singing seem to try to make movie longer.
Maybe beautiful love does exist in the world, (???) but it definitely looks like that. I want to see that and I want to believe it, this movie didn't convince me and make me so scary that I may never see it in my life.
